I’m Steve “Spike” Schechter, a photographer and writer based in Hong Kong. My specialties as a photographer include concerts and live performances, events and parties, business conferences and head shots.
My clients have included:
- Beacon Events
- Chord Asia
- Haverford College
- Mines & Money
- The Underground
- The Wanch
I’m also a partner and photographer at PASM Workshop, a unique photography studio and event space in Hong Kong.
I majored in film production in college and worked in the industry for several years, doing a variety of jobs on feature films (including Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining) as well as dozens of television commercials and industrial films before accidentally slipping into a career in IT management, which has since taken me around the world.
Along with the IT stuff, I’ve always written – mostly about music, movies and technology. I’ve written for a variety of publications for almost 40 years. In Hong Kong, I wrote gear reviews and news for the South China Morning Post and had a popular free wheeling column called “Spike” in BC Magazine for several years. I started the Hongkie Town blog back in 2004 and it’s still going strong.
Perhaps thanks to my corporate background, I enjoy the engagement with people while shooting corporate events and conferences and find each event to be a learning experience. Music has always been a big part of my life and that gives me a special affinity for capturing emotions when shooting musicians in concert.
