Hong Kong Harbor Shot

I’ve been waiting for a chance to take some Hong Kong harbor shots with the D800 and last night was the first of what I’m sure will be many nights to do so.  I believe that I got several good shots last night and I’m having a hard time choosing between them!  Here’s one:

Technical details:  Nikon D800, Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 lens at 55mm, ISO 100, f8, 8 seconds.

I also like the same shot rendered in black & white:

And here’s a crop from the first version:

More to come!

Gorgeous. I’m not sure I’d have been aware enough to try a low ISO and long shutter. That crop shows that you have exactly the right idea. Wow!

Buck, thanks. My thinking was ISO 100 to get the image as noise-free as possible and then F8 for aperture because most lenses work best somewhere in the middle under F11 and not at the largest aperture (not exactly sure what the “sweet spot” would be for this lens so took a guess). Fortunately I’ve got a rugged tripod and used the mirror lock-up mode – and you see the result. If I was shooting at daytime, I might try to do something with an ND filter to “smooth” out the water and the sky.
